Bartel Leendert van der Waerden
Bartel Leendert van der Waerden (February 2 1903-January 12 1996) was a Dutch mathematician who born in Amsterdam, Netherlands and died in Zürich, Switzerland.He wrote on algebraic geometry; and was the author of an influential two-volume abstract algebra book.
Van der Waerden was active also as a historian of science. He wrote Science Awakening (1954; Dutch original, Ontwakende wetenschap, 1950).
